The promoters and producers of Governors Ball Music Festival recently hosted a Reddit AMA to answer questions users had on the 2019 lineup. Here’s 10 of the most interesting tidbits we took away from that.
- The dream act they would have booked was Pearl Jam.
- Their weekend of choice will always be the first weekend in June. They said they especially didn’t want this year’s festival, set for May 31 – June 2, on the prior weekend (Memorial Day) or the following one when the Puerto Rican Day Parade is being held.
- The Woodstock anniversary event did not impact a single artist that they booked or didn’t book, they claimed.
- They said the lack of attendees at rock sets gave them pause for thought when booking bands like Tool, even though they admire and love them as the icons they are.
- One act they really wanted but lost out to Primavera (which falls on the same weekend) was FKA Twigs.
- They said they are still searching for a grassy spot throughout the boroughs to host the Meadows. They were approved for a one-day event at Flushing Meadows Corona Park but noted, “It’s really hard to make one day festivals work financially.”
- Single day tickets will be available in the coming weeks.
- Late night shows will be held again this year at various venues in the city.
- They said they really enjoy taking artists from pre-headliner spots to headliner slots like Travis Scott last year and Tyler, the Creator this year.
- The promoters and producers declined to comment on the rumors surrounding their attempts to book Kanye West. Billboard reported on West dropping out of Coachella and Governors Ball because the festivals couldn’t accommodate a special dome stage he wanted built for his set.
